And just add, those mustards that are in glorious yellow flowers right now, I hope you save the mustard seeds! We haven’t bought mustard seeds for years. They don’t look as pretty as the bought ones or as big but they still pack the pokey mustard flavour. And if you ever run out of seeds for the garden (which is unlikely as they are wonderful self sowers) you can raid your mustard seed spice jar.
Claire!! Thanks for such a lovely message before I checked out for my break, I’m sorry it took me an age to reply. But im so glad I finally have because (!!!) mustard seeds!!! I thought I had to grow a specific culinary type of mustard green to harvest the seeds, but no?! That is basically the most exciting news I’ve heard all week!! They are such a fantastic versatile plant if I can now cook with the seeds too I’ll be euphoric!
So relieved you are only taking a few weeks off every term. Phew! I’ve been enjoying your posts so much even though my garden and allotment are pretty much the opposite conditions but you make me think, reflect and share my tupenny bit of ideas inspired by your writing in your comments. I think it’s such a healthy idea to take some well needed downtime breaks. And I’m looking forward to your summer theme as I’m helping my father in law make his patio more green on the southern Spanish coast when in august it truly is like a dessert there and very Sandy because it’s on the coast.
Congratulations on realizing that you need to slow down and take a break, it is so important on so many levels. So many of us push ourselves to the limit only to get burnt out. Enjoy your much deserved holiday 🌻
I cannot believe you have decided to take a break right now. Only because I am noticing that so many people are in need of a break right now. Myself included. So important to take time for yourself. Have a nice well deserved rest Casey 🦋
A few people have said the same!! End of year stress maybe? Or something about 2024 that’s just wearing us all out? Hope you’re doing ok and making time for a break for yourself too ❤️❤️
As someone who has just started a job that gives me school holidays off to take it slower and enjoy the things we've worked hard for, this is such a lovely thing to do (if you're able!)
Good on you Casey! Breaks are good for so many aspects of our lives and we'll be right here reading your next newsletter even if you've been gone for the holidays. Enjoy the break!
